I am working with Parallels Desktop on the Mac which runs Windows XP in a virtual machine, directly on the hardware, without emulation. Runs like a breeze.

Today, I wanted to use MindManager in this VM and needed the „Insert“ key. Suddenly, I realized that the MacBook does not have such a key! (In fact, I never missed it until today!).

As a rescue, I found the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools on the Microsoft.com Website. This toolkit contains a tool called „remapkey.exe“ which allows to edit your keyboard – you can simply drag and drop your keys around, quite nice. So, I dragged the „Insert“ key to the „F12“ key, and I was done.

Prior to that, I disabled the Dashboard shortcut which was assigned to the F12 key on the Mac. You can do this in System Settings, Keyboard, Keyboard Shortcuts.
